Our work stems from a commitment to rigorous curiosity. We find interest in the simplest of things and dig relentlessly to uncover interesting questions that fuel our design work. These become our basis for deep investigations and the thoughtful execution of our work.
We find value in the power of meaningful design and its ability to improve lives. Architecture can be more than a just a clever means to an end. It can enrich, empower and inspire. With an ever-present urge to question the norms of everyday life, we are eager to uncover new and interesting uses for ordinary things. Flipping things on their head, re-purposing materials and seeking out unorthodox relationships between elements and people's relationship with space.
Our work has received national and international recognition and has been published and exhibited widely. Our success stems from striving to achieve an acute understanding of our clients’ goals and aspirations, which play a fundamental role in our design process.
Drawing on our fluency in progressive technologies and sustainable expertise, we strive to deliver projects that are distinct, beautiful and are defined by personal meaning.

Paul was born in Lima, Ohio in 1976 and grew up in Metropolitan Detroit. He earned his Bachelors degree from the University of Michigan Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning and continued his academic pursuit in Boston, earning his Masters Degree from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design.
Throughout his academic career, Paul went across North America, South America and Europe to travel and study. After graduating, he moved to Chicago where he joined Krueck + Sexton Architects. His involvement covered a range of commercial, institutional and urban design projects. His most notable project was his intimate engagement in the design and construction of the Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies.
In 2008, Paul became a founding partner in SIDE Architecture, an award-winning design practice which focused on a collection of finely-tuned design projects and a large volume of developer-driven work.
Building on the exciting momentum of his work with SIDE, Paul launched ELLIPSIS, a full-service architecture and design practice, based in Chicago.
Since 2008, he’s also been deeply committed to his role as a Faculty member within the Architecture, Interior Architecture & Designed Objects programs at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Paul has taught graduate studio courses in the Design of Ephemeral & Interactive Space, undergraduate studios in Materiality as well as seminar courses in Building Systems & Professional Practice. In 2010, as part of SAIC GFRY Design, Paul co-founded the Social Design Initiative “COM(M)A” which focused on channeling the talents of Artists, Designers & Architects into socially-productive & participatory design scenarios.
David joined Ellipsis in 2016 where he has been engaged in a number of projects including the design of a new fitness center and a boutique hotel in the Caribbean, as well as numerous multifamily and single family homes in the Chicago area.
As an instructor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) since 2012, David has taught graduate and undergraduate studio design courses in such subject areas as Thesis, housing, work space design, and urban design, as well as technical classes in lighting. Additionally, David has taught undergraduate studios at the Boston Architectural College, adult continuing studies at SAIC, and gifted children at Northwestern University’s School of Education and Social Policy. David has been a guest critic at IIT, Judson College, Harvard Career Discovery, Wentworth Institute of Technology and the University of Illinois.
David holds advanced degrees in Architecture (MArch) and Urban Planning (MUP), both from Harvard University, and a BA from Northwestern University.
Before joining Ellipsis, David worked as a designer at Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, Skidmore Owings & Merrill, Harvard Planning, and the Rothman Partners, a Boston firm specializing in healthcare. Prior to that, David was the director of marketing in such offices as Leers Weinzapfel and Graham Gund.
A native of the Chicago area, David enjoys photography, cooking and outdoor sports. Formerly a competitve rower, David is an avid cylclist and runner and enjoys hiking, soccer and golf. David has a love for all animals, especially dogs, and is trying to become vegetarian.
Seychelle joined the Ellipsis team in the continued pursuit of her passion for thoughtful design and execution. Amidst the wide variety of work in which she engages daily, she is especially intrigued by the interrelationship between art, architecture, and the human spirit.
While pursuing her masters degree and throughout her graduate career, Seychelle secured a comprehensive array of professional experience, working on a multitude of projects, both domestic and international, as a team member at Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture. She graduated with her Masters in Architecture from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Department of Architecture, Interior Architecture and Designed Objects in 2017.
Seychelle is a Chicago native and a student of life. She earned a double major from Lake Forest College in Studio Art and Communications but not before pursuing multi-disciplinary coursework at the Rhode Island School of Design, The New School in New York and Paris, and Polimoda in Florence, Italy. After her work in Italy, she returned to Chicago and worked as a project manager at San Juan Ventures, a sourcing and manufacturing company specializing in custom FF&E products and architectural features.
Mia was born in Seoul, South Korea in 1991 and moved to the volunteer state, Tennessee with her family in 2002. In 2010, she moved to Memphis, Tennessee where she earned her BFA in Interior Design at the University of Memphis. While in school, she worked with a tile design/ distribution company, honing her skills in client collaboration and communication between contractors, designers, architects, and clients. In her ongoing mission to expand her professional development further, so she moved to Chicago in 2015 to continue her study in Interior Architecture at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Since she was young, she always admired architecture's ability to dissolve barriers and act as a common method of communication between people all around the world. In her professional life, she strives to harness these abilities to bring life and soul back into the unexpected, forgotten places in the world through the language of design. During graduate school, she took the opportunity to travel to Europe to expose herself to new angles of design and expand her language. When she isn't passionately pursuing her professional passions, Mia can be found at the local coffee shop, reading and relaxing with a “cuppa” tea.
Cleo was born in Singapore and decided to venture to Chicago to study and work. She graduated from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, emphasizing in Design and Writing. After which, she worked as a Design Sales Assistant at Luminaire while completing a Post-Graduate degree in Sustainable Urban Design with Archeworks. She later returned to Singapore to be a part of a travelling design studio where she helped to grow Melewi’s business, developed the team and worked as a UX and UI designer.
Cleo likes to be knee deep in the mud, analyzing scenarios and exploring new ways of working. From product- to digital- to user research, design never ceases to amaze her. So far, she has collaborated with NGOs & architects in Chile to rebuild a community center, worked with the City of Chicago to address the needs of creatives, spread the good word of design through workshops and lectures and learned how to be self-sustaining by building her own furniture and farming her own foods.
