Tit-for-Tat

This proposal broadens the role of the designer. They take on the responsibility of inscribing a conceptual framework into the site which may govern the growth of a building over time.

Fundamental to this proposal was the attitude that development of the sort intended for Sunrise Trailer Court must not take place in a singular moment. Instead, residents should be permitted to remain on the site as development takes place around them over time. In this proposal, each homeowner is offered the freedom to choose between one of three trajectories on the site based on the specific agendas of their respective families. These include:

  1. Remain on one's current lot and live out the remainder of their unit's lifespan (average remaining trailer lifespan = 1-10 years).

  2. Instigated by incentives offered by the developer, one may move one's unit to a designated new location on-site. The reward for relocation would be the provision of two new 'amenity modules' which would provide a homeowner increased square footage, a private yard, additional bathroom, utility room, storage, entry sequence and private porch.

  3. Sell ones current trailer unit and relocate to a permanent unit on-site or off.

Modular add-on's were designed to serve a dual purpose. In addition to providing the aforementioned amenities to the lower level occupants, these amenities provide structural, infrastructural and circulatory support for new upper level units as well.
